The lowest number on a results page is a useful starting point, but it is not always the lowest total trip cost. A better comparison includes the route, the fare rules, the bags you need and the time the journey takes.
Start with a wider date window
Flight prices change by day because airlines manage demand and seat availability continuously. If your schedule allows it, compare several departure and return dates instead of searching only one fixed pair.
Moving a trip by even one or two days can reveal a different set of flights, connection times and booking providers. Flexible-date tools make this comparison faster than repeating each search manually.
Compare the total cost, not only the headline fare
- Cabin and checked baggage included in the fare
- Seat selection and payment fees
- Airport transfers when using a secondary airport
- Meals or an overnight stay during a long connection
- Change and cancellation conditions
Check the shape of the journey
A very low fare may involve a long overnight connection, an airport change or a self-transfer between separate tickets. A self-transfer can require collecting baggage, passing through immigration and checking in again. If the first flight is late, the second booking may not be protected.
Compare total journey time and connection risk alongside price. A slightly higher fare on one protected itinerary can sometimes be the better value.
Search nearby airports carefully
Large cities often have several airports, and another airport may show a lower fare. Add the cost and time of ground transportation before deciding. An airport that saves money on the ticket can still cost more overall if it is far from the city or requires an expensive transfer.
Confirm everything with the booking provider
Prices and availability can change quickly. Before payment, check the final total, passenger names, airports, dates, baggage and fare conditions on the provider's checkout page. The provider named on the confirmation will manage payment, changes, cancellations and support.
